Spring into Sound: An Awakening in Nanaimo

Anne-Marie Harris | APR 5

Sacred instruments: Harmonium, gongs, & crystal alchemy bowls with Ganesh altar at One Tribe Yoga in Nanaimo. Spring Equinox sound meditation by Sitka & Stillness.

There is a specific kind of silence that exists just before the world turns green. It is the silence of the seed—full of potential, waiting for the right frequency to break the surface.

Just before the breath of the Spring Equinox and the New Moon, the Sitka & Stillness Collective gathered at One Tribe Yoga in Nanaimo for our first offering as part of our residency in Basha's Sacred Space: Spring into Sound: Awakening.

The Power of the Shared OM

There is a profound stabilizing energy when a room of individuals breathes as one. We Om’d together—a simple, primal resonance that acted as a bridge between the earth and the sky. In that shared vibration, the "noise" of the mind faded away, replaced by the "breath-pure" energy of a collective homecoming.

Removing the Obstacles

In the Bhakti of our practice, we prioritize mantra as an offering to the Divine. To attune to this offering, we must first prime the inner instrument—dropping from the static of the mind into the resonant frequency of the heart. We recognize that the body is not just a witness to the sound, but a vessel that must be brought into rhythmic alignment. By recalibrating our internal vibration, we prepare the soil for what is to come. This seasonal shift begins by clearing the residue that accumulates in the transition between winter and spring, allowing our landscape to breathe again.

Together, we chanted the Vakratunda Mahakaya mantra eleven times. This ancient invocation to Ganesha is more than a ritual; it is a somatic tool. As the collective voice rose, we called upon the "remover of obstacles" to clear the internal pathways, allowing our intentions for the Spring Equinox to take root in fertile, unobstructed soil.

Anchoring in the New Moon

As the gongs and alchemy bowls began their descent, we utilized the darkness of the New Moon to anchor deep within. It wasn't just about relaxation; it was about recalibration. By fusing the precision of sacred frequency with the devotional heart of Bhakti, we created a haven where the soul could rest and the heart could speak. We emerged from the silence not just refreshed, but awakened—ready to move into the light of Spring with unshakeable inner stillness.

Where Roots Meet Rest.
